Walter Jenks was born in 1897 in Platteville, Wisconsin. He graduated from high school and then served two years in the Marine Corps during World War I. He then attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating from its Law School in 1922.
Walter moved to Baraboo after graduating and began practicing law with C.M. LaMar. In 1955, Walter was joined by his son, Richard Jenks and they formed the Jenks and Jenks partnership, with offices above the First National Bank in Baraboo. In 1972 they merged with Robert Greenhalgh and John Dithmar, forming Greenhalgh, Jenks and Dithmar, with offices above the Baraboo National Bank. Walter became of counsel to the firm and retired in 1972 after celebrating 50 years of law practice.
During his working years, Walter was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School and serving on the Board of Trustees. He was also on the School Board for many years and served as Superintendent of Schools. Walter passed away in 1981.
