Quilt Squares Project

This project is truly a visual celebration of who we are as a community. It celebrates the fact that a community is a tapestry of people -- all of whom have added to the success of Baraboo.

Colorful artwork with six sections displaying names with descriptive words: Zoey the wonder dog; Patrick Joan Brophy, educator, integrity, tireless; Keri Olson, joyful, inspiring, generous spirit; David P. Matthews, advocate, generous, loyal. Each section has distinct colorful backgrounds with decorative swirls, dots, and patterns.

Look closely at either end of Baraboo's "People Are the Fabric of the Community" mural on Oak Street and you'll see beautiful painted "quilt squares". Those blocks are where you can honor someone (or a pet) by having their name added to a square, along with three (only three!) descriptive words about them.

Each square is 10 inches by 10 inches, and is painted directly on the wall and sealed with a translucent acrylic paint glaze to protect the lettering and retain the design elements of the original mural.

Cost: $100 / square

A long mural depicting a diverse group of men and women in various professional, casual, and ceremonial attire, standing and sitting against a yellow background.
Street mural featuring two older men wearing hats, one in a dark suit and tie, and the other in a light jacket and glasses. To the left, there are colorful patterned tiles with handwritten text honoring various individuals. The mural is painted on a brick wall with a concrete sidewalk in front.
A painted mural depicting six people standing side by side, including a priest with a cross necklace, and a woman holding a notebook and folding her hands. The background features handwritten text and colorful patterned squares.

Since these materials are water-based and cannot be used outside when temperatures are below 50 degrees, we will wait for warm weather before the lettering artist, Morgan McArthur, will complete the painting of the name plates. We will let you know when the name plates have been installed.
