Dr. Robert Dewel, Bob to all, was a dentist in Baraboo but the smiles he put on Baraboo’s face came from his generosity in supporting many of the institutions that are the best of Baraboo. He was an active Kiwanian doing good works for years with this club. He was also a loyal Mason and used his talent for writing, public speaking, and good wards to the good of this organization. The Masons honored him with the Bob Dewel Day. Joe Ward, fellow historian and writer said Bob Dewel was very generous with his support of my projects and I will always be proud to have know him and to have shared notes. His biggest fans were the people who heard him play organ at the Al. Ringling Theater, the First Methodist Church and at senior care homes around the city. His articles on city history in the Baraboo News Republic were reader favorites and cemented his place as town historian. Those who knew him well loved his Ben Franklin impressions and those who knew him and lived him even better knew him as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
